5x5" Automatic Mold Installation on a JY350-ST
This is the installation procedure for running a 5x5" automatic mold on the JY350-ST. These molds were originally made for the MicroMolder and require three adapter components to install on the JY350-ST: an upper plate, and a 1.0" and 1.5" ejection skirts.
Before starting, examine the mold carefully. Check that all screws are tight and that there is no damage to the internal cavities. If there is any confusion, elevate it to management before proceeding. We do not want to shoot a mold that is going to produce bad parts.
Hardware Required
- Upper plate — attaches to upper platen
- 1.0" and 1.5" ejection system mold base — square frame, sits between bottom plate and mold bottom
- Low profile bolts — for attaching upper plate to upper platen
- 2x 1" 10-24 screws — for attaching mold A side (top) to upper plate
- 2x 2" 10-24 screws — for attaching mold B side (bottom) through ejection system mold base and into bottom plate
- Clamps — for securing bottom plate to lower platen
- Alignment extension tools (3D printed, 1/4" pin) — for molds with alignment pins

Installation Procedure
- Attach the upper plate to the upper platen using low profile bolts as shown above. The upper plate has a large circular hole in the center that aligns with the injector nozzle.
- Attach the mold A side (top) to the upper plate using 2x 1" 10-24 screws. Because the mold screws directly to the upper plate, the sprue hole will automatically be centered with the injector nozzle — no separate alignment procedure is needed.
- Place the 1.0" ejection system mold base on top of the 1.5" ejection system mold base and then mold B on top of that. The square frame cutout allows the ejector pins to travel through freely.
- Attach the mold B side (bottom) using 2 x 2" 10-24 screws, passing down through the mold, through the 1" ejection system mold base, and into the 1.5" ejection system mold base. Do not clamp the 1.5" ejection system mold base yet.
-
Align the mold halves. This is the most critical step.
- If the mold has alignment pins: Insert the 3D printed alignment extension tools into the upper mold's 1/4" alignment holes. These tools extend the pin location several inches downward, making it much easier to visually align the lower mold as you slowly lower the upper platen. Once the two halves are precisely mated, proceed.
- If the mold has no alignment pins: Carefully lower the upper platen and align the two mold halves by eye. Take your time — misalignment will damage the mold.
- Clamp the mold base assembly to the lower platen once the mold halves are correctly aligned.
- Lower the injector nozzle to the top of the mold using the "nozzle ret" button.
- Set LOWP/Place. On the "Mold Open/Close" page, close the mold and note the position value in the upper right (MoveMould). Set LOWP/Place to that value plus 0.1.
- Done.
NOTE: Always verify the LOWP/Place setting before running. If set too high, the machine will switch to high clamping pressure early and smash the mold. If set too low, it will never enter high pressure clamping mode and you will see flashing on the parts.

2026/05/24 - Made a few changes after going through it with Ashley.
2026/05/20 - Changed the procedure to use the 1" and 1.5" 5x5 ejection system mold bases.
